Embark on a sensory journey with this label design project, a culinary odyssey for a passionate chili maker based in the vibrant city of Penang, Malaysia. Rooted in humble beginnings, this project sought to capture the essence of familial tradition by showcasing the rich flavors of the client’s grandmother’s cherished chili recipe.

Navigating the creative process, I engaged in an insightful discussion with the client, who candidly expressed uncertainty about the label’s visual direction. Undeterred, I presented three distinctive concepts to breathe life into their vision.

The first concept embraced a touch of opulence, exuding an upscale allure with a sophisticated black and gold theme. Alternatively, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns of blue and white porcelain dishes, the second concept paid homage to the chili’s Chinese heritage.

The client’s ultimate choice, a testament to our collaborative journey, blended a hint of Peranakan charm. Inspired by the ornate patterns of Peranakan tiles, the final label marries tradition with modernity, resulting in a visually captivating representation of the chili maker’s legacy.

Through several iterations and client feedback, we meticulously refined the design to culminate in a label that seamlessly encapsulates the spirit of the brand.
